acondas Change Program at ESMT in Berlin

From July 7-8, 2016, the entire acondas team attended a Change (Management) seminar at the renowned European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) in Berlin. The seminar was part of the ESMT Executive Education Program, which trains executives from leading companies in essential management methods and skills.

Ulf Schäfer, Program Director at ESMT and lecturer on leadership, change, and responsible management, was our knowledgeable and inspirational guide throughout the two-day seminar.

Examining a real-life change case study, we discovered the elements of successful change initiatives and identified some root causes behind the failures of others. We also became familiar with the concept of adaptive change, which tries to anticipate the need for change and start initiatives as early as possible. We learned how to actively drive and support change initiatives in our roles as consultants and which instruments to use.

In peer-group consultations, each consultant introduced a particular change case from a real-life experience to a small peer group and received process recommendations from his or her colleagues.

The seminar provided many opportunities for experience sharing with colleagues and the ESMT faculty, giving each of us key, relevant takeaways from the program to apply to our client work.

Another highlight of the seminar was the location itself. The ESMT campus is housed in the former State Council Building of the German Democratic Republic next to the impressive reconstruction site of the Berlin City Palace – a place like none other in Germany, unrivaled in its transformation over the last century.

We would like to give a warm thank you to Ulf Schäfer and his team from the ESMT for two productive and inspiring days of collaboration, discussion and reflection. We are very much looking forward to participating in the program in the coming years!
